Yours truly has been a very busy girl! While yet in the throes of launch activities for My Dearest Mr. Darcy I was happily bombarded with loads of news and chores for future novels. I have waited to share until now so I could keep all focus on my fabulous third novel. But, now that My Dearest Mr. Darcy is out and about, flying off the bookshelves of the world, I am bursting to reveal the latest news!
The next novel in the Darcy Saga series has been titled Romancing Mr. Darcy. Bear in mind that titles and covers can change, although this one looks to be a keeper. Dominique Raccah, publisher and CEO of Sourcebooks, has final say and personally decides the title and appearance of each novel, which I think amazing considering they publish over 300 titles each year! The end product will look different with the gorgeous silvery foiling that beautifully accents the oval, but hopefully the painting will remain as I LOVE IT!!!!
I am SO in love with this cover!! Dare I say it is the best one ever? That is a tough call as I love all of them, but the ballroom scene is divine and absolutely perfect for this novel as there are two balls occurring within the pages. And the byline!
It's a truth universally acknowledged that everyone wants to fall in love....
How utterly fabulous is that? *sigh Yes, I am very happy and I made sure my editor knew! Let's keep our fingers crossed! Romancing Mr. Darcy is scheduled for release on October 1 of this year. Last week I completed the first round of edits. The process was painless and actually very fun. My wonderful editor, Deb Werksman, requested I try to tighten a few portions and cut where I felt possible to do so. She was entirely open to my wishes, but was correct that the length was on the edge of being too long. So, proceeding line by line with her thoughts and suggestions in mind, I trimmed nearly 9000 words. Have no fear! The story is still intact and over 135,000 words at this point, so there is plenty of the Darcys forthcoming! Now it is in the hands of a copyeditor who will make sure all the grammar is correct and so on.
Following right on the heels of that, and actually overlapping, was news on the Christmas anthology due for release in mid-November. This is a special Sourcebooks project that I was invited to partake of and I had the option of writing anything I wanted. Rather tempting, but I chose to stay with my beloved characters and the Saga. However, I have written a novella that is completely independent for those readers unfamiliar with my work. I am so proud of it! Better yet, my editor was blown away! She said it was "brilliant" - a wonderful word choice, let me tell you!
I am totally in love with this cover too! Wow! I shall say it again: Sourcebooks design creates stunning covers. As you can see, the other authors are Amanda Grange and Carolyn Eberhart. Amanda is well known, of course, as the author of Mr. Darcy's Diary and Mr. Darcy, Vampyre. It is an incredible honor to be in a book alongside her. Carolyn is a debut author. Naturally I will talk more about this novel as the time grows closer. As of this Tuesday I completed the first round of edits for my novella, once again needing to do very little overall. I have a remarkable editor who flawlessly notices those places that are jarring in some way, too modern sounding, or need to be reworked for clarity. It is a fun process, actually, and I learn so much each time.
So there you have it! I probably have a month or less before copyedits will be returned to me for another line-by-line inspection. Until then I am back to writing! I cracked open Darcy #5 yesterday and have already dug in. Fun, fun, fun!!
Happy Thursday everyone! And happy February, the month of LOVE.
If one is a romance novelist, love is the most important emotion. Of course, IMO love should be the most important emotion to everyone! We who write of true love and happy endings are forever doing our best to spread positive thoughts and create warm glows of happiness. The ever-increasing group of talented authors published by Sourcebooks under their fiction and romance lines, Landmark and Casablanca, are no exception. 18 of us now contribute daily to the Casablanca Authors blog. I have been a part of this awesome collective of women for a year and a half. They have become my friends, my sisters in this crazy business, and writers I have personally enjoyed reading.
Our blog has been updated with a cool slideshow of our covers and all our smiling faces on the sidebar with links to our websites. Several new voices have joined the group to make our blogging more diverse and fun. The beginning days of each month will be devoted to launch parties for our new releases. This month the spotlight was on Terry Spear, Judi Fennell, and Laura Kinsale with book giveaways! It isn't too late to read about those and enter with a comment.
Starting this month onward we will be exploring themes each month for our personal blogs. This month our theme is - LOVE! No surprise, is it? LOL! I opened the month with a celebration of our blog and our authors. LOVE IS IN THE AIR!! Indeed it is at Casablanca Authors blogspot!
As part of the virtual book tour for My Dearest Mr. Darcy I appeared at Historical Hussies and blogged about the Regency and why I love to write during that Era. The response was terrific and Melanie won a set of my novels for commenting. Hopefully she has had a chance to start reading and will love my vision of life for the Darcys! That fun essay can still be read even though it is too late to win any books:
I have been honored with an invitation to again contribute to this fabulous website dedicated to historical writing. Thanks Linda! This time I wrote about the Court of St. James, the royal palace and administrative center of the monarchy during the Regency. No books are being given away this time, but I do encourage reading this fascinating slice of history. And maybe while there the numerous articles will intrigue!
This is it - my final week of official promotional activities forMy Dearest Mr. Darcy. I am rather sad to see all the fun-filled blogs and interviews coming to an end. But, on the other hand, I am already working on edits for my upcoming novels so it will be good to focus strictly upon that. And, yes, I have lots of news to share on my future works in the Darcy Saga! But, I am waiting to share that once Launch Month is over - so you will all have to come back next week to see what exciting developments I have for you! A teaser, yes indeed!
This week has been as marvelous as the previous ones. All of my guest spots have been tremendously fun. I encourage everyone to read them - just scroll down the blog page for all the links. Several are still open for comments and a chance to win a set of 3 novels in the Darcy Saga series. How awesome is that? These are the places that are still open for the contest with deadlines noted. Please don't miss out on this opportunity!
Congratulations to everyone who has won my books so far. I do hope all are satisfied with my vision of happily-ever-after for Lizzy and Darcy. If you are, I sure would love to hear from you! If not, well, keep it to yourself. LOL!
On Thursday I gave a speech to the Visalia Networking for Women, an organization of community businesswomen. My third speech - EVER! I was invited several months ago by Barbara Mayeda, who works at the hospital, when she read the newsflash about me that circulated via our internal email. Of course I was nervous, as I am sure I always will be when public speaking, but everyone said I did well. I guess I will believe them! Here I am with Barbara:
The luncheon was held at the Vintage Press, which is a fabulous 5-star restaurant in Visalia. That alone was an incentive - LOL! - but sadly I ended up too nervous to eat! No problem, it was yummy heated up later. My daughter Emily came with me as support, and that was a fortuitous arrangement as she played financial manager and lovely assistant to the crowd of ladies wanting my books. I brought 28 copies and sold every last one! I could have sold more. That was a marvelous surprise. Everyone was gracious, enthusiastic, riveted to my talk, and abundantly welcoming. I spoke of my journey in writing this story, how I was inspired, the process of publishing, and about the Saga in depth. I also highlighted Sourcebooks and the fabulous, awe-inspiring Dominique Raccah who has brilliantly created a powerhouse company that is today the largest woman-owned publisher in the US. What a great topic for a group of businesswomen! I was also thrilled to spotlight the RWA and my local chapter, the Yosemite Romance Writers. A special thanks to our vice-president, and my friend, Sandy Marlow who came to support me AND brought her aunt and mom. And it was her mom's birthday! What a present! Here I am with Sandy and her lovely mother Marilyn:
In between all that fun, and doing some other publishing-type work (another hint), I also headed up the task to update and revamp the Casablanca Authors Blogspot. Now, if none of you have checked out the blog collectively hosted by the crazily talented group of romance novelists who are published by Sourcebooks, you are seriously missing out! Contemporary, historical, paranormal, sci-fi, erotic, humorous, chick-lit, young adult, Highlanders, shapeshifters, Irish, Italian, English... you name it, we have it! We now have 18 incredible writers in our group. All of our gorgeous faces are now on the blog with links to our diverse websites. Plus we now have this awesome slideshow of all our book covers! Sourcebooks designers make the most amazing covers, each one personally given the final stamp of excellence by Dominique herself. Take the time to watch the show, and watch carefully as you might just catch a surprise glimpse of my news.....
Did you see it?! Watch again... Then come on over to the Casablanca Authors blog. Daily we trade off blogging about whatever tickles our fancy. February is the month of love, so we will be focusing on le amour - after our launch parties! Terry Spear and Judi Fennell have new books out this month, plus we are overjoyed to support the return of historical romance queen Laura Kinsale! Her new novel, Lessons in French, is available now.
That is enough for one week! More updates next week. Be sure to check back! And thanks once again, from the depths of my heart, for making my launch month so enjoyable and My Dearest Mr. Darcy a huge success. *big hug*
My last guest spot for the month is by special invitation from my dear friend and fellow Yosemite Romance Writer, Sarah Simas at her happening blog - The Lovestruck Novice. Sarah is midway through her first novel and writes in the Regency Era as I do, although her story has nothing to do with Jane Austen. She writes of crossed-lover, hidden secrets, murderous men with vengeful motives, and sizzling passion. Ooh! Can't wait to read the whole thing!!
Since we do have the Regency in common, I decided to go with my usual flow and touch upon some of the cool bits of history I have uncovered to include in My Dearest Mr. Darcy.
With a website name like Seductive Musings I probably should have highlighted the sensual romance within the pages of My Dearest Mr. Darcy. What was I thinking?! Well, those who know my saga know there is a fair amount of healthy loving between Darcy and Lizzy. I could have had fun with it to be sure. However, it was requested I talk about marriage in Austen's day and what inspired me to write of the Darcys' marriage as I did. This was actually a really fun topic! Come on over and get involved with the discussion. A set of books is up for grabs.
To my additional surprise - since I never know who has an ARC and will actually read it - Seductive Musings blog owner Booklover did read My Dearest Mr. Darcy and wrote a nice 4-star review! Nice! The review is short but very sweet, so I will share in its entirety here:
Sharon Lathan has written a sweet, romantic and delightful diversion in My Dearest Mr. Darcy. Through letters, confidences and tender, intimate family moments Ms. Lathan has continued her interpretation of Darcy and Elizabeth's lives together and let's us imagine what life at Pemberly might have been like. In My Dearest Mr. Darcy readers get to celebrate birthdays, a renewal of vows, their first anniversary and the birth of their first child. Their growing love, and adventures through Ms. Lathan's eyes will entertain anyone that craves more from these characters that have become like old beloved friends that you long to keep in touch with.
If you wish to read it on Seductive Musings and comment, here is the direct link:
Never too late to read a marvelous review! Reviewer Marlene B. of Once Upon a Romance gave 4-stars to Loving Mr. Darcy in September - read review HERE - and has felt the same for My Dearest Mr. Darcy. Both books are on their Historical Romance Featured Reviews. I am very pleased!
Darcy and Elizabeth have not yet been married a year and are awaiting the arrival of their first child. Before the baby arrives, Darcy decides to take a vacation by the sea with Elizabeth, and they grow even closer. Unfortunately, there is a scheming woman with an eye for the handsome Darcy, who tries to cause problems.
My Dearest Mr. Darcy is a snapshot of a brief period in time experienced by two of the most beloved characters in literature. Ms. Lathan incorporates wonderful period details and many of the characters seen in Pride and Prejudice make a reappearance, as well as, several interesting new characters. This reader, particularly, liked Darcy's eccentric uncle George, who is a Doctor who practiced in India and wears Indian garb. This story is first and foremost about the developing relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth, and Ms. Lathan does a great job of telling that story in a believable manner. I defy anyone not to fall further in love with Darcy after reading this book, and Elizabeth acts in ways that are truthful to her established character from Pride and Prejudice.
Lovers of Pride and Prejudice should enjoy My Dearest Mr. Darcy, because it is essentially a feel-good read. However, if the reader dislikes spicy sex scenes, she might give this sequel a miss.
Thank you, Marlene. I appreciate you taking the time to read my novel and then to write a wonderful review so your readers will be informed. We authors need more positive feedback!
Anna was willing to read and review My Dearest Mr. Darcy having not read the previous two. She loved it! I really appreciate her openness to tackle a book that falls third in a series, and her honesty in approaching her reading experience from that point of view. Anna's review can be read on the Editorial Reviews page.
Now Anna has asked me to appear on her website! She wrote a terrific interview, the first one I answered for this release as a matter of fact! It has a nice mixture of writing questions, Saga questions, and personal questions. Come on over! Win a set of books!!
The first time I appeared on Love Romance Passion I was interviewed by Keira and then talked about how Austen inspired my writing. The second time, for the release of Loving Mr. Darcy, I went historical and wrote about the genesis of clowns and the circus. This time I decided to approach it from a literal interpretation. I wrote about the love, the romance, and the passion that are hallmarks of what sets my story apart from most of the others. Using poetry, I show how romantic love has forever been a reality. I am proud of the tone to my books, of the blissful marriage I portray, and in this essay I share how that mission translates. Please come over and comment in support of how my story has touched you. A set of the Saga is once again a possible prize!
The third week of my virtual tour celebrating the release of My Dearest Mr. Darcy on January 1 is past. A part of me is happy to have all the blogs written and interviews done and to see the light at the end of the crazy tunnel. Another part of me will be sad to leave the excitement behind. I, of course, will continue to edit and write, keeping all of you updated on the latest happenings in Sharon Lathan’s life. But I won’t get to partake of another blog tour until October when Romancing Mr. Darcy is launched. This is rather sad!
So, lets try to make this last week AWESOME!!
First, remember the continuing contests for sets of all 3 novels
Today it is my turn to blog at the Casablanca Authors site. We are such a great group of writers and I hope all of you will come on over to check out the eclectic novels Sourcebooks publishes. Keeping in theme with the historical blogs I have been writing, I shared some information on seabathing during the Regency.
Last Saturday was the monthly meeting of our local Romance Writers of America (RWA) group – The Yosemite Romance Writers. I was asked to be the guest speaker! I gave a rousing, motivating talk on marketing and promotion for authors with pages of tips on branding and creating a website. Then I honestly discussed the highs and lows of the publishing process, detailing what to expect step-by-step. Everyone had a great time and I am pleased to say that several of our determined future-published writers have their websites running! Go Micole, Ginny, and Sarah! Aren’t we a great looking bunch? And aren’t those novels stunning? LOL!
L->R: Micole Black, Sandy Marlow, Sarah Simas, Dawna Richard, Melissa Blue, me, Ginny Christensen
For those of you who missed the news about my article in the Fresno Bee {Talk section, or who could not read the tiny print on the scanned paged in the post down the blog, the article was reprinted in the online "Fresno Famous" magazine. Nice, huh? It is the exact same article as perfectly written by Jill Coppler, but with a different photo.
The rest of my week was spent listening to the constant downpour of rain that we are receiving here in the Central Valley of California while trying to stay warm, and also beginning the edits on Romancing Mr. Darcy. Yes, you heard that right! I will talk more on what is happening with future novels in the weeks ahead.
And speaking of future novels, let me again express how appreciative I am of the continued support of satisfied readers. I want all of you to know how precious and encouraging your emails and comments are, especially when those who dislike my happily-ever-after tale continue to be so vocal. Please take the time to share your positive opinions with ladies you know and on review places (B&N, Goodreads, Amazon) and anywhere else. Help keep the Darcys alive for a long while to come so that everyone who likes Austen and happy endings will have the chance to read my series.
And, as a special, tasty treat to express my appreciation...........
Aah... Indeed. My favorite Mr. Darcy, the gorgeous Matthew Macfadyen, with the stunning Kim Catrall in a publicity shot for their play, Private Lives. The play is in Bath and then London starting in February. If you are so fortunate as to be in that part of the world, here is the website for more information: Private Lives Thanks to my dear friends May and Kathy who keep me and the world-at-large informed of all matters Matthew at the Topix Forum.
Today, lovely Friday, I am excited to be the guest on Mason's blog - Thoughts in Progress. Mason is a new friend who has been a wonderful supporter of Sourcebooks Casablanca novels and our superb authors. She invited me to be in the spotlight today and I am honored to do so. Thanks Mason!
I chose to go the historical route! The beginning chapters of My Dearest Mr. Darcy relate a thrilling holiday spent at the seaside. Darcy and Lizzy are all alone enjoying the many wonders to be found at ocean resorts of the day. In this essay I talk about a handful of them. Please join us, read to be educated and entertained, and comment. This time I am in charge of the giveaway and one lucky winner will receive a signed copy of My Dearest Mr. Darcy directly from me!
In other Friday news, I was notified of another great review for My Dearest Mr. Darcy. This always cheers me up! Bridget at Good Books, Bad Books has been a fan of my novels since she read an ARC of Mr. and Mrs. FitzwilliamDarcy: Two Shall Become One last March. I am pleased to report that she was not disappointed in this latest installment of my saga.
There are two things I really enjoy about Ms. Lathan's books. One-the true expression of feeling between Lizzie and Fitzwilliam. Their love is something you really believe in. You want them to be happy and to live a long, fulfilling life together. Two-the secondary characters. There are quite a few of them and usually I'd find myself confused, but she's able to pull it off. My favorite secondary character is Fitzwilliam's Uncle.
I love it when Dr. Darcy is mentioned! Thanks Bridget!
Happy Thursday! Today I am hanging out with Lori and her blog-pals at Psychotic State. Lori interviewed me, asking a few of the typical questions and several unique ones. Be sure to check it out and comment or ask an additional question of moi! I will be checking in throughout the day between an NICU staff meeting and lunch date with my new friend Maggie. :) Don't be shy! Speaking up could win you a set of all 3 Darcy Saga novels!!
Silly me! This guest post is scheduled for January 20, and on my calendar that is tomorrow since it is the 19th here in California. However, Alaine and her wonderful blog - Queen of Happy Endings - are located in Australia. In OZ it is already the 20th! To add to the irony, my guest essay is all about time management. LOL! You would think that might have been a clue, Ha!
So, forgetful authors aside, I hope some of you will click over to Alaine, Queen of Happy Endings to read my latest entry into the My Dearest Mr. Darcy launch tour. Once again there is a giveaway of an entire set of my 3 novels!
My Dearest Mr. Darcy has been out for 2 whole weeks! Today begins the third week of my virtual book tour and once again I am fortunate to be appearing on a wonderful blog to talk about my novels. Wendy at My Book Addiction invited me onto her excellent website and requested I name my favorite book and talk about how/if it influenced writing the Darcy Saga. Excellent question! Come by and see what I had to say. Comments will give you a chance to win a complete set of the novels.
Remember: Most of the giveaways from last week are still open! Scroll down to the Launch Week Roundup for links and details. Don't miss these chances! Plus, the essays I wrote are awesome! LOL!
Congratulations to the winner of a signed copy of My Dearest Mr. Darcy from my guest interview with Micole Writes Romance.....
My second week of virtual book touring ends with a thrill. I am given the spotlight at Blodeuedd's blogsite Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell. Bloudeuedd's first love is fantasy, as is mine, but also like me she enjoys all genres. Still, since many of the novels she reviews are of a fantastical bent, I decided to write about my foray into the paranormal within the pages of My Dearest Mr. Darcy. What am I talking about? Come and see!
Continuing the generous streak, Sourcebooks is giving away one set of all the books to a lucky winner. Just comment to be entered! Blodeuedd also reviewed Mr. and Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy, having recently discover my series when agreeing to host me for this blog tour. I loved her honest and humorous opinion! Scroll down past my guest blog to read her review or click this link--
My Dearest Mr. Darcy has now been officially available for 15 days! I have been flittering all over the place having loads of fun promoting my newest novel. Many of you have followed along and I really appreciate that. I hope more of you will join in, lending your support to my endeavors and also earning chances to win copies of my books.
Between Sourcebooks and me, there are scads of the Darcy Saga volumes waiting to be won! Aside from that, your humble authoress has written some terrific blogs and wittily answered some fabulous interviews! For the next 2 weeks the virtual tour will continue, offering more opportunities to have your name entered into the contests, but there are several that still remain open.
On the review front I am receiving awesome reports. This is fantastic! All the reviews I have received thus far are on the Editorial Reviews page with direct website links. I am so thankful and humbled by the positive feedback. Both from those who take time to read and critically review my novels from the editorial standpoint, and those who purchase them and then place an honest note online, favorable commentary is vital. Many potential readers choose a book based on the opinions of others. So thank you to everyone who takes the time to submit ratings and thoughts. I can’t stress enough how inspiring and helpful it is.
OK then! Today is Friday the 15th and I will be preparing for a talk I am giving to my romance writers group tomorrow. The Yosemite Romance Writers have asked me to be their guest speaker to launch the new year! Wish me luck! I will be back over the weekend with an update and photos.
Lastly, my wonderful hubby got up and ready for work even earlier than usual so he could hunt down today's Fresno Bee for my article! He is amazing, and... the article turned out fabulous. I am on the front page of the {Talk section! I have scanned it for your viewing pleasure although I fear the print may be too hard to read.
Hist-Fic Chick - Isn't that a fabulous name for a blog? I love it! Allie has a beautiful blog devoted to historical fiction in books and movies with reviews and informative essays. I was honored to be given the opportunity to chat about some of my research into the Regency Era, specifically for My Dearest Mr. Darcy, and the difficulties that can arise in getting the facts right. Hope to see you there and try to answer this question: Any glaring mistakes you caught while reading a book? A set of the Darcy Saga is up for grabs!
The Casablanca authors are the best! I truly, down to my toes love every one of them and am so happy to be a part of the "family" of terrific romance writers published by Sourcebooks. The friendship and shared support is amazing. And, as if that wasn't enough, they each write really great books! Marie Force is the author of Line of Scrimmage and Love at First Flight. Both of these contemporary romance stories are terrific and I can't recommend them highly enough - and I can't wait until her next books come out! Hurry up Marie!!
Today my good friend Marie has invited me to share her blog in an inpromptu interview that began with spontaneous emails exchanged a couple of weeks ago. It was a great idea and Marie is going to continue the concept with the incomparable Cheryl Brooks, author of the Cat Star Chronicles, tomorrow. Come on over and take a gander at the fun questions my buddy asked of me. Our banter and goofy personalities made this interview one of my favorites. Stop by, see what we had to say, and check out Marie's blog and books. Oh, and I'll be giving away a signed book!

Tuesday is a very busy day in the virtual book tour world of Sharon Lathan! I am hanging out with my buddy Micole at her brand-spanking new and shiny website (see post below). I am also over with my Casablanca compadres talking about my latest book signing. Please feel free to pop over and see what is up with the fabulous authors that Sourcebooks publishes. You will definitely NOT be sorry!
At the same time, and while attempting to sleep for a few hours since I worked in the NICU last night, I will be checking in with the readers of This Book For Free. Shoshana hosted me when Loving Mr. Darcy was released in September. At that time I talked about how the Darcys love to stargaze and gave a bit of history on the subject. Shoshana also wrote a lovely review for my second book. Both of those entries can be read here-- Sharon Lathan and Loving Mr. Darcy on This Book for Free
Today I am blogging about prologues and synopsis, relating how I chose to approach the necessary "summing up" in a unique way for My Dearest Mr. Darcy. I titled my essay, "Let me 'splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up!"There will be a giveaway as well as special kudos from me if you know what movie that title quote is from!
I was also really pleased to read Shoshana's wonderful 5-star review of My Dearest Mr. Darcy. What a delightful bonus! An added joy was to inform Shoshana that the Saga is not to end at a trilogy as she suspected.
**I am very excited to know that there are 5 books to this series. I wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye. Just heard it from Ms. Sharon.
In more review news, the morning continued to improve beyond measure by receiving a positive review from Alaine, the Queen of Happy Endings. Alaine has given high marks and praise to both of my previous books, and overall loved this one equally, giving it a grade of 8 out of 10. I'll take it! I will be guest blogging on Alaine's blog on January 10. For now, pop over to read what Alaine had to say--
I am so excited to share my friend Micole with all of you!
If you have been around The Darcy Saga for any length of time then you know I am very active with my local chapter of the Romance Writers of America. The Yosemite Romance Writers group is, in a word, fantastic. I have been a part of this group for seven months now and each lady is very special to me. The support we lend each other is phenomenal. All of us dreams of seeing our names in print, with each at different stages in the process, and together try to make that dream come true for each other. Micole Black writes contemporary romance with a western twist and her first complete novel is being shown to agents and editors right now! Her brand new website/blog - Micole Writes Romance - became public last week and I am honored to be her first guest! I am thrilled, actually! She asked me some questions about my novels and writing process, helping to promote and encourage my success, and I hope all of you reading this blurb will click over to see what I had to say. That, in turn, will help Micole to generate traffic and ignite the all-important publicity campaign that will aid her success when her novel is picked up. We romance novelists love to help each other out! And isn't she too cute?!
And if that isn't incentive enough, I will be giving away a signed copy of My Dearest Mr. Darcy to one lucky winner! I hope to see you there. And thanks, Micole, for graciously sharing your brand new blog with me.
